Sports betting is what it sounds like. You place a bet on a sporting event and win a set amount of money if the team or player you bet on wins. Placing bets on sports is a way for some people to make money and a way for many to enjoy watching a contest more than if they didn't have money riding on the outcome.

Is it just me, or is NL25 an easier game than NL5?

Talking Bovada specifically, but may be the same in other places as well. I deposited $50 just for fun this week. Been playing the NL5 game, some 1 dollar SNGs, etc.
I’m up modestly in the NL5 games but I’ve bought in two different times to the NL25 games and the players actually seem better in the NL5 game. The NL25 game I was seeing a lot more limpers pre-flop, weaker hands at showdown, and overall people just willing to pay you off on your big hands. The NL5 guys seem tighter and much more aggressive pre-flop. (To the point where pre-flop limpers are rare)
Anyone else noticed this?
(PS - I know my roll is low for NL25. I’m not hurting for money and this is just for fun for me. Frankly I feel better with a smaller amount on the unregulated, illegal US poker site. :-) )

Horror Story — Looking for advice

6/14: Request Check from Bovada
6/24: Receive Check in the mail
6/24: Deposit check at Bank of America
6/26: Phone call from bank stating my account is being closed for illegal/fraudulent activity — which will be sent and reported to ChexSystems.
7/2: Received letter from bank confirming their intent on closing my account.
I have tried to contact Bovada but I always get a different rep on the phone or through email. They all pretty much have told me that they are not responsible and to contact my bank and to not mention online gaming in any way whatsoever. (no shit)
Could anybody refer me to the appropriate person at Bovada to speak to about this?
I am kind of being hung out to dry. The check was only around $400. I am not worried about the money. I am worried about the chexsystems report.
I have not told my wife about this and we are (or were) soon to be First Time Home Buyers. I’m scared to death that the chexsystems report made by my bank will prevent us from doing so. I also am under the impression that I can no longer bank with Bank of America -- as it is tied to my SSN. I am really at a loss for words
Help please.

Withdrawing Winnings/IRS Structuring

Hello Everyone,
Right now, the maximum withdrawal limit for Bovada is $9500. So if I were to make multiple wire transfer withdrawals of $9500 to my bank account, will the IRS take all of my money (including money from my job, and not just the money made from sports betting) due to the laws of structuring? Also heard you can be sentenced up to 5 years in federal prison and fined $250k as well. What happened to our Constitution that protected us from the government from stealing the property of citizens that weren't obtained illegally? Seems like the legislatures are above the Constitution. Thanks.

How is Bovada the "softest" site to play on in the US?

I don't play online very often anymore but when I do, it is on Bovada. I haven't played enough to say if it is soft or not but I am up in my experience. I always see posts on here saying that it is the softest to play though. How is that? I would think that after Black Friday (sigh) there would only be good players from the US doing what it takes to continue to play even if it is illegal.
What makes it this way? And what what percent of Bovada players do you think are from the U.S? I'm not sure if there is a right answer to the first question but I am curious to hear what you guys have to say.

How to practice on my own without access to casino/online cardrooms?

So basically I have a dilemma: I want to improve as a poker player, but the nearest casinos (including more informal poker rooms) to where I live are 2+ hours away, not to mention that I don't have a car or time to travel that far in my schedule. Additionally, I live in the US, where online gambling is, supposedly, illegal. I am not really willing to wager my money on offshore-based online casinos such as Bovada, etc. because I've heard many disadvantages, notably that the games/accounts can be easily rigged and hacked and that it is hard to find a place willing to cash a withdrawal check, if you are lucky enough to even get one sent.
This leaves me with two apparent options left, both with their own disadvantages: playing online for play money, where players don't give enough of a damn to play seriously, and home games with friends, who are not always available and, as I've found, not a very good "resource" to me personally for improving my poker skills.
So, I am wondering if any of you know a solution to this problem, namely somewhere I can play routinely for solid experience and (preferably) for cash. Any input is appreciated :-)

Best sites for micro-limit poker.

So, I put $50 on Bovada after realizing that online poker is not illegal in my state. I used to play a lot back in 2003 until the Internet gaming law made me quit.
Back in the day I was able to take my initial deposit of $25 up to $700 on Pokerstars. I did this by starting in the .02/.04 limit games and just slowly growing my bankroll until I had enough BR to move up to the next level. I made it up to .25/.50 and .50/1 before pulling out.
Bovada starts out at .05/.10 which is fine with me, but I can hardly get a full 9 player table. Most of the time I can barely get a 6 player table.
Is there a US-friendly place besides Bovada with a more active micro-limit playerbase or is Bovada the best and I just have to deal until a make enough to move up to .25/.50+?

Bovada is a Problem for Poker in America.

Hi. I'm a professional poker player.
I specialize and prefer online poker. I feel forced to play on Bovada, the unregulated, super super sketchy illegally operating website, known as Bodog outside of the US.
Despite the fact that shutting down Bovada would injure my bank account, my family's bottom line, I made this petition:
https://www.change.org/petitions/president-barack-obama-either-shut-down-bovada-poker-or-else-allow-competition
I hope you'll sign.
https://www.change.org/petitions/president-barack-obama-either-shut-down-bovada-poker-or-else-allow-competition
Or at least let's add Bovada to the debate on poker in the United States. Pokerstars and Fulltilt are universally agreed to be better "actors" in the poker world than Bovada and Calvin Ayre.
He and his illegal company should not be allowed to peddle a corrupted form of poker (anonymous poker is not poker).

Ok guys. Another BOVADA (is it legal) post. Try not to be a dick.

So I've searched (google) and searched (reddit) but I still feel there isn't a consensus if - playing poker online from the United States - is legal or not AND IF NOT LEGAL, what are the consequences?
Some people say its technically not illegal because BOVADA is outside the US. Well what if you're deposting from a US bank and want money back into that same US bank? Or maybe they pay out via check so it's a whole different beast?
Yes I realize my name is TexasLawDog. My type of law deals more with chasing down illegals.
Thanks in advance.

Betting on Football Games in the US

Hi, I posted this on soccer earlier and was advised to post it here as well.
I am an Indian citizen studying in the US. I want to start betting on football matches, even if that means betting small amounts, but betting on sports is illegal in the US. Having said that, I've heard there are ways around it and was suggested Bovada as a betting medium.
I just wanted to get the opinion of this sub on ways that you would suggest through which I can place bets living in the US? I know absolutely nothing about betting mediums and so not quite sure of how to start. Thanks!

ONLINE GAMING GO TO DEBT COLLECTION?

Hey guys I had an account with Bovada a while back. Long short I ended up having about $200 in charges getting charged back because of some confusion.
I ignored it because I was done playing on the site and had been informed that it was illegal for them to try and collect on that $200. I just received a collections letter (lol) in regards to that amount.
My question is, is this a debt that can legally be collected in the US? Or is this just them trying to see if I will be dumb enough to reply and give up money?
Also, if it does seem to be legal, what is the best process for me to confirm the debt and/or go about dealing with it.
Any help or recommendations aer greatly appreciated.
