Class-action lawyers have launched a $50 million lawsuit one day after Casino Rama announced it was the victim of a cyberattack. The proposed suit is being led by Toronto Lawyer Ted Charney who Class-action lawyers wasted little time Friday in jumping on word of a cyberattack on an Ontario casino in which sensitive information was stolen. Two gamblers who allege their privacy was breached are spearheading a proposed class action against an Ontario casino whose databases were hacked. The lawsuit also names Ontario's gaming commission, the Penn National Gaming and its Ontario subsidiary, which run the casino, and the Chippewas of Rama First Nation where the facility is located. The Ontario Superior Court of Justice has denied certification of the proposed class in a breach of privacy class action, which arose out of a cyber-attack against Casino Rama in November 2016. Justice Belobaba held that “the certification collapses in its entirety” as a result of the absence of commonality between the proposed class members, in accordance with s.5(1)(c) Class Proceedings Act. Casino Rama provided the following update: At approximately 2 p.m. this afternoon, we were informed of an anonymous bomb threat at Casino Rama Resort that was called into the Orillia OPP.
